The Ride Wollongong Festival of Cycling features a series of AusCycling courses designed to support riders, coaches and community members at every stage of their journey.

From foundational skills to advanced techniques and official accreditation, these courses provide practical, hands-on learning in a supportive environment – helping you ride safer, grow your confidence and get more involved in the cycling community.

AusCycling Gravity MTB Academy

Saturday 29 August 2026 
Kembla MTB Trails 

Take your riding to the next level. 

The AusCycling Gravity MTB Academy is a specialised skills and coaching session designed for intermediate to advanced riders looking to build confidence, control and speed on technical trails. 

Set within the Kembla MTB Trails, this program focuses on the fundamentals of gravity riding – helping you tackle descents, features and challenging terrain with greater precision and confidence. 

 

What You’ll Learn 

Led by experienced coaches, riders will develop key downhill and trail-riding skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. 

Sessions will focus on: 

  • Advanced bike handling and control  
  • Cornering, braking and line choice  
  • Navigating technical features and trail obstacles

          The AusCycling MTB Foundation Skills Course is designed for coaches and community members looking to develop essential mountain biking skills, knowledge and confidence in a supportive, hands-on environment. 

          Whether you’re new to MTB or looking to strengthen your fundamentals, this course sets the foundation for safe, capable and confident riding. 

          What You’ll Learn 

          Delivered by experienced coaches, this course focuses on the core techniques every rider needs to feel comfortable and in control on the trails. 

          Sessions will cover: 

          • Fundamental bike handling skills  
          • Body positioning and balance  
          • Braking and cornering techniques  
          • Navigating simple trail features  
          • Trail awareness and rider safety

                  AusCycling Road Cycling Foundation Skills Course

                  Build confidence on the road – and learn how to guide others. 

                  The AusCycling Road Cycling Foundation Skills Course is designed for those interested in coaching, as well as riders looking to strengthen their core road cycling skills in a safe and structured environment. 

                  Held at the Unanderra Criterium Track, this course focuses on the fundamentals of road riding – from bike handling to group dynamics – helping you ride with confidence and support others to do the same. 

                  What You’ll Learn 

                  Through hands-on coaching and practical sessions, participants will develop essential road cycling skills, including: 

                  • Safe riding techniques on the road  
                  • Group riding skills and etiquette  
                  • Bike handling and control  
                  • Positioning, awareness and communication  
                  • Building confidence in a range of riding scenarios

                          AusCycling Commissaire Course

                          Saturday 5 – Sunday 6 September 2026 
                          Delivered in conjunction with the Brennan Illawarra Tour 

                          Play a vital role in the sport of cycling. 

                          The AusCycling Commissaire Course is designed for those looking to step into officiating and support the delivery of safe, fair and well-run cycling events. 

                          Held alongside the Brennan Illawarra Tour, this course combines theory with real-world, on-the-ground experience – giving participants a unique opportunity to learn in a live event environment. 

                          What You’ll Learn 

                          This training course equips aspiring commissaires with the knowledge and practical skills needed to officiate cycling events with confidence. 

                          Participants will gain insight into: 

                          • The rules and regulations of competitive cycling  
                          • Race management and decision-making  
                          • Ensuring fair and safe competition  
                          • The role of commissaires across different event formats  
                          • Communication and coordination during events  

                          Learn in a Live Event Setting 

                          By running alongside the Brennan Illawarra Tour, participants will experience officiating in action – observing and applying their learning in a real race environment. 

                          It’s hands-on, practical and directly connected to how events are delivered on the ground.
