Cargo Bike Skills Challenge
Sunday, 13 September 2026 | 10:00am-3:00pm | Lang Park
The Cargo Bike Skills Challenge is a fun, interactive obstacle course designed to showcase just how practical, safe and enjoyable cargo bikes can be in everyday life.
Participants will ride through a short, timed course that brings real-world scenarios to life – from loading groceries and school drop-offs to navigating bike lanes, parking at cafés and handling uneven surfaces. It’s a playful take on everyday riding, designed to highlight how cargo bikes fit seamlessly into daily routines.
Riders can take part in two categories – front-cargo bikes (such as box bikes and bakfiets) and rear-tail cargo bikes (including longtails and rear-rack cargo bikes). Participants compete individually, with light-hearted penalties for mistakes and live commentary adding to the atmosphere and keeping spectators entertained.
The course is designed to be accessible for a wide range of experience levels, with a strong focus on safe riding, skill development and enjoyment rather than speed alone. Running throughout the day, the challenge creates a lively and engaging hub within the festival, drawing in families, curious onlookers and cycling enthusiasts alike.
The event will appeal to anyone interested in alternative transport options, as well as those looking for a fun, social and slightly competitive experience. Helmets are mandatory for all participants.
Local cycling-friendly businesses will also be involved, supporting different obstacles along the course and showcasing how they cater to people who ride. This not only adds to the experience but helps highlight the growing network of businesses supporting everyday cycling in the region.
As part of the festival, the Cargo Bike Skills Challenge adds a high-energy, hands-on element that goes beyond traditional cycling events. It reinforces the idea that cycling is not just for sport or recreation, but a practical, inclusive and family-friendly way to move through everyday life.
